“The Punderground is Spokane’s new (and only) community punning competition.

12 potential punsters will compete. Paired up randomly at registration, each pair will be given a topic to pun when they are called to take the stage* (*stage = the area where we’ve set up the PA system). Then, taken turn by turn, they will each have to pun within that subject matter without repeating puns or using clichés. Don’t stress, the first round will be lax and forgiving. Plus, you get three strikes before you’re out!

These 12 will be whittled to 6, and then those 6 will be reduced to 3. Those final 3 will go head-to-head in an exciting final round, where there is only one Grand Champion. But there are prizes for the top 3, so don’t fret! Plus, there’s always an audience-voted-on MVP award!

Boots will have their awesome food and beverage selections. Free admission, deliciousness, wittiness, and prizes will be there. You just bring the puns.

Registration signups are at 7. The event will begin at 7:30. Spokane you be there?”

The Nutcracker

“Performed by the Eugene Ballet. Part of Festival Dance and Performing Arts. Performed by a large cast of over 40 dancers, the story begins with a gala Christmas Party at the home of the heroine, Clara. After the guests leave and the clock strikes midnight, the magic begins with large and small mice battling a Nutcracker doll who comes to life. With the help of Clara, the Nutcracker wins and the audience is whisked away through the Snow Kingdom and on to the Kingdom of the Sweets, presided over by the Sugarplum Fairy and her Cavalier. In this Kingdom, dancers from many lands entertain, performing Spanish, Russian and Arabian dances, followed by Mother Ginger and her little Bon Bons. The performance concludes with the beautiful Waltz of the Flowers and a Grand Pas de Deux danced by the Sugarplum Fairy and her Cavalier. This holiday classic is perfect for the entire family. In addition to the 22 professional dancers, the company adds local dance students in each place to dance the roles of baby mice, little angels, bon bons, party children and waltzing flowers. In this production, 29 local dancers, who are students of the Festival Dance Academy, auditioned for roles and have been rehearsing since September.”
